About the Role
Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a passionate and energetic individual to join the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team. This role is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business, focusing on complex, large-scale datacenter construction and lease projects. The position offers career and technical growth, providing technical direction and facilitating the delivery of industry-leading datacenter designs.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and coordinated direction for civil engineering works in datacenter development.
- Offer civil design support throughout project lifecycles, from site due diligence to handover.
- Collaborate with Global Technical Excellence, Global Strategy, and DCE Operations teams to develop datacenter designs.
- Direct the technical delivery of multiple datacenter design solutions, aligning with project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Coach the One Microsoft culture and values.
- Provide technical direction to vendors, including civil engineers, architects, and structural engineers.
- Collaborate with various teams and external stakeholders to develop datacenter designs from conception to issue for construction.
- Apply best practices in Health & Safety throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Professional Engineer or Registered/Chartered Engineer or working towards registration.
- Proven years of experience as a Civil Engineer.
- Sufficient years of experience in a Senior Lead role on Datacenter design or large infrastructural projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of underground utilities, roads & carparks, earthworks and geotechnical engineering, storm water design and flood analysis.
- Experience with detailed coordination with Structural, Architectural, M&E, and Telecoms disciplines.
- Good understanding of construction techniques, sequencing, and site logistics.
- Good Knowledge of Geotechnical Engineering.
- Ability to navigate in 3D Models (e.g., BIM360/Navisworks/Revit).
- Ability to use Microsoft software, including effective reporting and presentations.
- Ability to lead teams of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes for large datacenter environments.
- Proficient in problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills.
