About the Role

As a Small Format Team Leader, you will enable a consistent guest experience by ensuring product availability, accurate pricing, and effective sales floor presentation. You will be an expert in operations, process, and efficiency, proficient in all areas of the store, including cashiering and stocking. This role focuses on providing exceptional guest service, anticipating guest needs, and leading a team of hourly team members.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring and Friendly guest experience.
  • Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
  • Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
  • Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities and take action to improve.
  • Align team on the right behaviors and execution, celebrate wins, and drive results that deliver outcomes and elevate the guest experience.
  • Understand sales goals, plan daily/weekly workload, and execute to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
  • Plan merchandising, pricing workload, and make changes to sales floor merchandise displays, sales plans, and promotions.
  • Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience.
  • Model, train, and coach team members on expectations to deliver the service standard.
  • Enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor.
  • Be an expert of operations, accuracy, process, and efficiency.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing products, maintain stock levels, ensure inventory accuracy, and execute product arrangement, pricing, and promotional signing processes.
  • Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns.
  • Help lead team members in assigned departments in the backroom and sales floor areas.
  • Review all reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan to resolve.
  • Enable efficient delivery to guests by leading pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work, as applicable.
  • Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team.
  • Participate in team onboarding and learning.
  • Close knowledge and skill gaps through training and experiences.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead and hold the team accountable to work in an ethical, safe, and compliant manner.

  • Assist with incident response, and report/investigate injuries timely and accurately.
  • Model the execution of physical security processes.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store.
  • Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices.
  • Regularly assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities.
  • Address all store emergency and compliance needs.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick up (OPU), and Drive up (DU).
  • Maintain a compliance culture while executing duties, including compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
  • Perform other duties based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 15 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving merchandise and fixtures up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
