About the Role
Under limited supervision, the Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the program. Key responsibilities include instructing student athletes, recruitment, supporting academic progress, budget management, scheduling, travel coordination, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and NESCAC rules. The role also involves teaching Physical Education classes.
Responsibilities
- Teach the fundamentals of the sport during meetings, practices and games
- Teach enrolled students in classroom setting in the general area of physical education
- Devise and implement athletic strategies for the team
- Cultivate and support the academic development of student-athletes by monitoring academic progress and implementing action plans
- Identify, evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes
- Assist with administration of the program’s budget through monitoring expenditures
- Coordinate on-campus team meals with the dining vendor
- Collaborate with Sports Medicine regarding injury prevention and rehabilitation techniques
- Ensure the safety of all student-athletes by scheduling practice sessions in compliance with rules, overseeing equipment selection and fitting, and making recommendations for improvements
- Plan and organize team travel including coordinating budget with the Athletic Business Office
- Manage alumni relations and coordinate correspondence with alumni, boosters, and parents
- Promote the Athletics Department and Program through community events, public speaking, fundraising and marketing
- Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes
- Ensure adherence to all NCAA, NESCAC, and College rules by athletes and staff
- In absence of Head Coach, assume Head Coach duties with approval
- Attend seminars, conferences and other professional development opportunities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in an appropriate area of specialization
- Experience coaching and/or playing at the intercollegiate level
- Evening and weekend work is necessary
- Must have a valid active driver’s license
- Successful background check is mandatory
