About the Role

Paramedics provide Basic and Advanced Life Support care, ensuring patient safety and efficient transportation. They are responsible for vehicle and equipment readiness, adherence to protocols, and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicle and equipment at the beginning of each tour.
  • Secure all issued equipment and ensure its operational status.
  • Operate within the parameters of NYC REMAC, REMSCO, NYS DOH, NYS DMV VTL, OSHA, and departmental policies.
  • Report on time for assigned tours in complete uniform.
  • Inspect vehicle using the WEMS-DOH 800 form, ensuring compliance and stock of supplies.
  • Note any vehicle needs or damage.
  • Remain in constant communication with Dispatcher, reporting dispositions and locations accurately.
  • Respond to assigned calls in a timely, safe, and expeditious manner.
  • Adhere to NYS DMV Vehicle Traffic Laws and WEMS policy.
  • Provide for scene safety and crew safety.
  • Report on scene status or request additional resources as needed.
  • Gain access to patients, search scenes, and triage as needed.
  • Provide Basic and Advanced Life Support measures within scope of practice and NYC REMAC Protocols.
  • Determine the most appropriate facility for transportation and care.
  • Secure patients in the Ambulance and provide safe transportation.
  • Complete all required documentation.
  • Relay patient information to the receiving facility.
  • Restock, clean, and render the vehicle operational for the next patient.
  • Attend CME, Department meetings, Department in-services, orientations, and updates.
  • Treat all patients, family members, staff, and other responding agencies with respect, privacy, and courtesy.
  • Assist WHMC staff when the unit is off service, as needed.
  • Comply with NYS DOH, NYS DMV VTL, OSHA, REMAC, REMSCO, Hospital and Departmental policies, rules, regulations, protocols, and laws.
  • Maintain vehicle and crew quarters clean and sanitary.
  • Make recommendations to Supervisor for improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by Supervisory personnel.

Requirements

  • Must maintain current EMT-Paramedic and REMAC certifications.
  • Must maintain a current valid DMV driver's license.
  • Must be able to read & write in English, and interpret oral, written, and diagnostic form instructions, and read a map.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and balance 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
  • Must be able to calculate weight and volume ratios.
  • Minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
  • NYS DMV Driver's License.
  • REMAC Certification.
  • NYS DOH EMT-Paramedic.
  • Candidate will be required to respond to NYC 911 and provide top quality patient care.
  • Possess a valid NYS driver's license with no more than 2 points.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of 10 codes.
  • Working knowledge of NYS and NYC ALS REMAC protocols.
  • Valid certifications for NYS Paramedic, NYC Paramedic and AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS.
  • Exhibit competence with all equipment at the BLS and ALS levels.
  • Must attend the WEMS CPR, HazMat Awareness, OSHA Regs, NYSP-DDC, and Departmental orientation.
  • Must attend the Hospital orientation.
  • Responsible for maintaining at least 72 hours of CME in a 3-year period as outlined in REMAC.
