About the Role
The Prep Cook/Porter is an essential part of a 3-5 person team preparing healthy, made-from-scratch meals for hundreds of children daily. This role offers stable, day hours with weekends and holidays off. The ideal candidate has high-volume kitchen experience, is reliable, and possesses a "can-do" attitude. Key responsibilities include understanding daily menus, cooking scratch dishes, serving food on a tight schedule, and maintaining high kitchen cleanliness standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to prioritize daily menu item production.
- Uphold kitchen cleanliness, ensuring it exceeds DOH standards at all times.
- Cook, cool, and plate food following Red Rabbit’s recipes and DOH food safety regulations.
- Efficiently wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment, keeping the dish area organized.
- Pack and distribute meals to students in compliance with portion sizes and school schedules.
- Accurately count and record food produced to maintain compliance and minimize waste.
- Read and interpret menu production sheets to determine daily food preparation requirements.
- Represent Red Rabbit’s values professionally when interacting with school staff and students.
- Demonstrate physical capability to stoop, bend, lift, and carry 50+ lbs, and stand for extended periods.
- Complete tasks in a timely and hospitable manner.
Requirements
- 1+ years professional culinary experience in a fast-paced role in the service industry (i.e. restaurants), high volume kitchen production (i.e. commissary kitchen), or in a similar cafeteria role (i.e. schools/hospitals).
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
- Must be familiar with using and maintaining industrial kitchen equipment.
- Able to self-motivate and to be organized.
- Ability to function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast-moving environment.
- Have a great attitude and contribute to a positive working environment.
- Share our passion for improving nutrition and health in schools.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
