About the Role
We are seeking a House Manager & Family Assistant to provide comprehensive support for a busy two-parent household with two young children. This role focuses on maintaining household functionality, organization, and smooth daily routines, allowing the family to connect and relax. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, warm, and organized individual who can anticipate needs and manage tasks independently, becoming a trusted part of the household support system.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain household systems.
- Perform daily resets and prepare the home for cleaners.
- Conduct light tidying, including dishes, surfaces, and vacuuming high-traffic areas.
- Manage seasonal clothing, décor, and bedding swaps.
- Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs.
- Assist with event and holiday preparation.
- Handle packing and unpacking for travel.
- Perform indoor plant care as needed.
- Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors.
- Manage the family calendar, including school holidays, appointments, and deadlines.
- Set up and maintain a shared digital family calendar.
- Coordinate events and appointments.
- Track and manage children's extracurricular activities, holiday schedules, and school project logistics.
- Assist with travel planning and logistics.
- Coordinate and manage ad hoc household projects.
- Track and manage receipts and budgets for household expenses.
- Perform after-school pick-ups.
- Provide supervision and afternoon childcare.
- Assist children with unpacking and preparing backpacks, clothing, and snacks.
- Track and manage school assignments.
- Handle kid-related errands, such as purchasing supplies, uniforms, and gifts.
- Coordinate babysitter coverage from the family's existing roster.
- Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies.
- Manage running household supply lists.
- Manage household orders and subscriptions.
- Create and implement a daily mail and package management system.
- Handle returns, dry cleaning, and gift shopping.
- Break down boxes.
- Prepare healthy family dinners on weeknights.
- Prepare after-school snacks daily.
- Wash, chop, and prep fresh produce.
- Perform grocery shopping, both in-store and online.
- Prepare lunches as needed during the summer.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization.
- Wash, fold, and organize family laundry.
- Perform ironing, steaming, and special garment care, including school uniform maintenance.
- Maintain tidy and well-stocked laundry areas.
- Feed and walk the pet once daily.
- Schedule pet vet and grooming appointments.
- Administer pet medications monthly.
- Maintain pet supplies inventory.
- Schedule vehicle maintenance.
- Handle vehicle fueling, cleaning, and organizing.
- Track vehicle registration and insurance.
- Oversee cleaners, contractors, building staff, and outside vendors.
- Identify and triage household issues, research solutions, and coordinate repairs.
- Research maintenance needs for home systems and coordinate proactive service visits.
- Refresh entryways.
- Clean humidifiers and air purifiers.
- Manage organizational projects for toys and gear.
- Coordinate and execute home updates and décor projects.
- Support with vendors at the secondary property in Westport, CT.
- Ensure property readiness at the secondary location.
- Oversee home systems (HVAC, security, pool) at the secondary location.
Requirements
- Maintain a smoke-free and fragrance-free work environment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Have reliable transportation; own vehicle preferred.
- Be up to date on recommended vaccinations, including annual influenza vaccine, subject to legal accommodations.
- Be CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain prior to start.
- Bring experience supporting a busy household, family, or similarly fast-moving environment.
- Demonstrate strong organization, follow-through, and initiative.
- Think several steps ahead and have a strong sense of what needs to happen next.
- Be comfortable taking tasks from initiation to completion independently.
- Enjoy creating systems that bring order to a busy household.
- Be warm and comfortable with young children.
- Possess strong emotional intelligence and the ability to read a room.
