About the Role

The Volunteer Engagement Specialist works alongside individual and group volunteers and other Volunteer Department staff at the Regional Food Bank, where each year more than 20,000 people donate their time. This is a hands-on position that involves working with volunteers to sort and repack food and non-food products in the warehouse.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, schedules and works with volunteers to sort and re-pack food and non-food products in the warehouse.
• Completes accurate paperwork for volunteer hours and products sorted.
• Fields inquiries and maintains regular communication with volunteers via email and telephone in a timely manner.
• Schedules volunteers using the CERVIS system.
• Coordinates volunteers for off-site events and assists with other projects as needed.
• Conducts outreach to community groups.
• Assists with volunteer recognition events.
• Contributes ideas and materials to the department and organization's newsletters as needed.
• Works with volunteers and staff in other areas of the operation as needed.
• Maintains a clean and safe workspace.
• Inspects power equipment prior to use.
• Follows all safety standards and procedures.
• Works independently and collaboratively with other departments and employees in support of the mission of the Food Bank.
• Adheres to the Food Bank's Employee Code of Conduct.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Responsible for opening and closing the building.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must possess a valid New York State Driver's License.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain power equipment and food safety certifications.
• Must provide own steel-toe shoes (annual compensation is provided).
• Committed to the cause of hunger relief and serious about working hard for a good cause.

• Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to work in a warehouse where temperatures fluctuate.
• Ability to receive a forklift operator's license with training provided by the Food Bank.

Experience Level

• Prior experience operating power equipment in a warehouse setting preferred.
• Warehouse experience is helpful but not required.

Education Level

• High school or equivalency diploma.
• College degree preferred.
