About the Role

The Lead Family Shelter Resident Assistant provides support to shelter residents, assists with daily shelter operations, and supervises Resident Assistants. This role helps maintain a safe environment, ensures policy adherence, and acts as a liaison between RAs and Case Managers to support client success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental assistance to families in crisis.
  • Offer emotional support, actively listen, and build rapport with families.
  • Supervise and guide Resident Assistants during assigned shifts.
  • Assist, oversee, and implement daily shelter programs and activities, including meal distribution, recreational programs, laundry, family programming, chores, and room turnover.
  • Assist with meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.
  • Handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently, following established procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to address immediate concerns and ensure client safety.
  • Enforce shelter rules and policies consistently and fairly.
  • Oversee and assist with completing incident reports, behavioral write-ups, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including daily shift logs and incident reports.
  • Communicate effectively with the shelter management team and Case Managers regarding client needs and incidents.
  • Serve as a liaison between Resident Assistants and Case Managers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor and track client needs and concerns, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Manage and monitor shelter inventory, including supplies, linens, and hygiene items.
  • Check email during every shift.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Assist with intakes and discharges.
  • Monitor facility, including answering phones, conducting rounds, and viewing cameras.
  • Complete daily room inspections per shelter policies.
  • Turn over rooms when clients leave, including laundry and cleaning.
  • Assist coworkers with responsibilities as needs arise.
  • Perform other duties as requested to benefit clients and programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Experience in shelter services, residential care, or human services preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including working with those in crisis and vulnerable populations required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to obtain adult and pediatric first aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to work in a changing and challenging environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to sit, talk, and hear is required.
  • Ability to climb stairs is essential.
