Responsibilities

• Perform highly complex immunofluorometric IRT, 17-OHP, T4 and TSH, and Galt analysis on high volume neonatal screening specimens.
• Complete all documentation with required information.
• Recognize and notify supervisor of delays in specimen testing or result reporting.
• Identify problems with atypical test results and consult with upper-level personnel.
• Perform high volume sampling (punching) of filter paper specimens for all newborn screening tests and standards and controls.
• Use technical knowledge to determine specimen acceptability and assign thyroid unsatisfactory codes.
• Evaluate and interpret highly complex data.
• Review and release final results.
• Process reports associated with worklist duties.
• Use the Newborn Screening Laboratory Information computer system.
• Participate in quality control review, proficiency testing, equipment performance documentation, specimen workload tallies and supply inventory.
• Perform routine and specialized preventive maintenance of highly complex equipment.
• Identify equipment problems, perform troubleshooting and make routine adjustments.
• Promote workflow through cooperative interaction, reassignment of duties, and teamwork.
• Initiate rapid communication of abnormal test results to inform upper-level technicians.
• Conduct training of staff.
• Comply with DSHS Laboratory, local, state and federal guidelines to ensure a safe functioning laboratory.
• Participate in the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must wear provided personal protective equipment (including: face shield, gloves, laboratory coat, safety glasses) as required by testing/safety procedures.
• Must be able to pass a functional color vision assessment.
• Attach copy of college transcripts or equivalent.
• List on Application in Employment History for each job: percent time and experience with specific laboratory instrumentation, including computers and software utilized, daily specimen workload, and experience with quality control.
• Bring I-9 documentation on the first day of work.

Education Level

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
• Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science)
• Associate degree in medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution

Salary/Compensations

• $4,539.50 - $5,778.14 Monthly
