About the Role

The Landscape Services Technician supports the Facilities Management Department by performing skilled craftwork in landscaping, ensuring the efficient operation and stewardship of Dallas College's physical assets across approximately 5,000,000 sq. ft. of space and over 1400 acres.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine maintenance needs.
  • Determine causes of operating errors and solve issues.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain landscaping with accuracy and speed.
  • Create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Recognize and observe safety and security procedures, report unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Utilize computer technology to access data and communicate with others.
  • Maintain written equipment maintenance records.
  • Communicate with individuals internal/external within the Dallas College Community.
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.
  • Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance using hand tools and equipment.
  • Plant, trim, lay sod, water, and mow to maintain college grounds and equipment.
  • Operate light to moderately heavy equipment for landscape maintenance.
  • Plant and transplant trees, shrubs, and flowers; sod grass, plant seed, pull weeds, and spray fertilizer and insecticides.
  • Report equipment repair problems to the Facility Manager.
  • Pick up litter on campus pavement and grounds.
  • Ensure high-quality landscaping maintenance across all Dallas College locations.
  • Maintain assigned equipment.
  • Collaborate with facilities teammates to provide customer service and safe grounds.
  • Assist other facilities management teams as required.
  • Complete required Dallas College Professional Development training hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • Ability to work extended hours including nights and weekends.
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsite travel.
  • Subject to a criminal background check.
  • Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
