About the Role

Conductors operate track switches, couple and uncouple cars, and perform other duties associated with the movement of trains, cars, and engines in rail yards and on the main railroad. This role involves receiving and acting upon instructions for switching, placement, or delivery of railroad cars and/or trains.

Responsibilities

• Receive and take direction from a certified trainer.
• Conduct railcar and train movements, signaling crew members for movement using lantern, hand, flag signals, or radio.
• Observe, interpret, and relay arm, lantern, or radio signals and other indications affecting train movement.
• Operate track switches and apply or release hand brakes.
• Read and understand operational documents including the book of rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, waybills, placards, and safety instructions.
• Prepare required daily reports and switch lists manually or with a computer.
• Fill out forms, including train orders.
• Inspect the condition of the train and equipment.
• Couple air and electrical connections between locomotives when making up trains.
• Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to work in a 24/7 work environment.
• Ability to work in outdoor working conditions.

Experience Level

• Two years of work experience or relevant work experience is a plus.

Education Level

• High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
• Valid driver's license.

Salary/Compensations

• Training/Probationary Rate: $29.90
• Qualified Rate: $37.37
