About the Role
RHONDOS PowerConnect is seeking a skilled software engineer to own the quality and evolution of production ABAP code. This role involves deep technical work at the intersection of SAP, security, and observability, for a mature product with a substantial global customer base. The ideal candidate is a disciplined practitioner who understands software quality and raises the standard of the codebase.
Responsibilities

- Applying functional and object-oriented programming principles fluently.
- Writing readable, maintainable, and traceable code.
- Ensuring all shipped code is free from security vulnerabilities.
- Writing and maintaining unit tests and contributing to integration testing coverage.
- Participating actively in code review, both giving and receiving feedback.
- Contributing to transport management and release packaging.
- Supporting root cause analysis and resolution for production defects.
- Providing technical escalation support for complex customer issues.
- Translating customer-reported problems into reproducible defects and driving resolution.
- Building documentation and tooling to reduce escalations.
- Actively staying current with modern ABAP practices and implementing improvements.
- Contributing to internal knowledge sharing through write-ups, documentation, or tech talks.
- Engaging with the broader RHONDOS mission to understand the product, customers, and business context.
Requirements
- Solid, demonstrable proficiency in ABAP (classical and modern syntax and principles).
- Deep proficiency in ABAP Objects (interfaces, inheritance, class-based exceptions, design patterns).
- Strong ABAP Dictionary skills (transparent tables, views, data elements, domains, table types, lock objects, search helps).
- Hands-on experience with RFC and parallel processing (asynchronous RFC, task queues, dispatching, enqueue locking, background jobs, shared memory objects).
- Experience with HTTP/REST integration from ABAP and high-volume JSON/XML payload serialization/parsing.
- Performance-minded development for high-volume data extraction (efficient Open SQL, internal table handling, runtime analysis).
- Understanding of core computer engineering principles (data structures, algorithmic complexity, modularity, encapsulation, separation of concerns).
- Experience working across the full SDLC (development, testing, transport management, production support).
- Familiarity with SAP security concepts relevant to ABAP development (authorization objects, input validation, injection prevention).
- Ability to write code that others can read.
- Curiosity and the discipline to apply new techniques.
