About the Role
KIPP NYC is seeking passionate teachers who can motivate and educate students, develop academic and character skills, and make a college preparatory education relevant. This role focuses on fostering a love for art, encouraging exploration of various mediums, and nurturing students' artistic skills through engaging experiences that promote creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for the arts.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum aligned with school and NYC Blueprint for the Arts standards.
- Create a welcoming and stimulating classroom environment that encourages exploration and experimentation.
- Teach various artistic techniques and mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, appropriate for middle school students.
- Foster a positive classroom culture that encourages creativity, collaboration, and respect for diverse artistic expressions.
- Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback.
- Organize and prepare for art shows, exhibitions, and other opportunities to showcase student artwork.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Teach students in a high-quality, exciting way.
- Commit to constant professional and personal growth as part of a team of teachers.
- Constantly assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues.
- Provide individual or small group instruction for students needing additional assistance.
- Model a 'whatever it takes' spirit to ensure student success.
- Model school values in all communications with students, families, and staff.
Requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills contributing to a collegial working environment.
- Possess character traits: zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
- At least two years of teaching experience strongly preferred.
- New York State teacher certification in the appropriate content area.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Possess an art portfolio highlighting skills and enthusiasm for art and education.
- Passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture.
- Strong desire to become a better teacher.
- Demonstrated success in raising achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC serves.
- Must notify HR if you move or plan to relocate.
- Employment will be subject to review if you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY.
- KIPP NYC does not offer visa sponsorship or work authorization.
