About the Role

The Activity Specialist will teach computer science principles, functions, computational concepts, and programming to middle school-aged after-school participants. SAYA seeks candidates knowledgeable and skilled in programming who are comfortable teaching computational thinking as a problem-solving process.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all activities to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that support social-emotional learning, skill-building, and collaboration.
  • Facilitate engaging and creative activities to foster new skills in youth.
  • Manage the classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model.
  • Ensure proper care of spaces and materials, organize the room, and report any misused or damaged items.
  • Complete and submit program reports, including supply requests, lesson plans, incident reports, attendance, and timesheets.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, meetings, and special events.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or current college student preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of academic preparation in programming, or equivalent training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth development, after-school programs, and public education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities, people, and projects effectively.
  • Experience in providing individualized and group instruction to meet the needs of youth with various skill levels.
  • Experience designing and teaching courses to ensure youth success and support youth-centered learning.
  • Comply with School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements, including background check and medical clearance.
