About the Role
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting Department with day-to-day accounting activities, including account reconciliations, equipment accounting, intercompany transactions, tax filings, financing coordination, and quarterly financial reporting. This role works closely with the Assistant Controller and other accounting team members to ensure accurate and timely financial records and compliance with reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for multiple entities.
- Set up equipment in Viewpoint and maintain monthly depreciation schedules for multiple entities.
- Manage monthly intercompany equipment billing from assigned companies.
- File monthly Highway Use Tax (HUT) returns.
- File annual NYC Commercial Motor Vehicle Tax and manage sticker maintenance.
- Handle quarterly and annual Personal Property Tax filings.
- Manage Equipment Inventory Tax filings.
- Coordinate equipment financing, including obtaining rates, collecting invoices, processing paperwork, and requesting insurance certificates.
- Assist with quarterly financial statement schedules (e.g., operating leases, notes payable, inventory).
- Review and capitalize leasehold improvements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Possess 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in Construction or Equipment Facility.
- Familiarity with accounting software and Microsoft Office is required.
- Must be detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Must be capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, and have excellent follow-through capability.
- Possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Ability to multi-task and perform in a team environment.
