About the Role
This role involves leading a team through financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy of analyses, preparing regulatory reports, and developing strategies for capital optimization. The position also requires providing support for complex transactions and maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Manage, train, and lead a team through quarterly and year-end financial reporting processes for all lines of business under IFRS 17 and Solvency II reserving bases.
- Ensure tests and analyses, such as reserve movements and source of earnings analysis, are completed to verify accuracy.
- Prepare IFRS 17 and SII reports, and the quarterly/yearly LICAT (LIMAT) return.
- Summarize and explain quarterly financial results to the CFO and Senior Leadership Team.
- Consolidate cash flows and lead the production of the annual Financial Condition Test, Business Plan, Value of New Business, and profitability metrics.
- Identify and develop strategies to optimize capital usage for MR Group and the Branch through retrocession or other opportunities.
- Provide deal support on large inforce transactions, FinRe, and complex structured solutions.
- Prepare reports and liaise with management, regulators, auditors, and the Munich Home Office.
- Monitor emerging experience and test assumption changes.
- Identify needs in the valuation landscape (IT and processes) to drive infrastructure improvements.
- Build strong relationships with other departments, maintain regular communication, identify improvement opportunities, and address issues.

Requirements
- University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- FSA/FCIA designation.
- 7+ years of experience in the Canadian Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills across all organizational levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
- Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Comfortable working with complex calculations.
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with the Canadian reinsurance market, traditional re/insurance product features, LICAT capital requirements, and profitability metrics is prioritized.
- Familiarity with IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 as it relates to insurance related financial instruments is an asset.
- Experience with AXIS and Datalink.
