About the Role

The Markets Group of the NY Fed implements monetary policy, executes lender of last resort operations, provides payments and custody services to foreign central banks, and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury. The trading desk's mission is to implement domestic open market and foreign currency operations, monitor and analyze global financial markets, produce New York Fed Reference Rates, and provide capital markets-related transaction services.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, improve, and build critical datasets and tools supporting monetary policy operations and fiscal agent activities.
  • Integrate data sources and generate analysis to support the team’s daily activities, potentially using dashboards or visualization tools.
  • Support and conduct the planning and execution of monetary policy operations (e.g., purchases and sales of Treasuries, repos, reverse repos).
  • Support and conduct the planning and execution of fiscal agent transactions (e.g., Treasury debt auctions).
  • Analyze and report on financial market developments related to monetary and fiscal policy.
  • Assist senior staff with ad-hoc projects concerning policy, operations, market analysis, and data analysis.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets and monetary policy, including the ability to discuss the basic functions of the Federal Reserve.
  • Experience in understanding, handling, and manipulating complex datasets.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including performing complex functions.
  • Familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools such as Tableau/Power BI, SQL, Python, R, and/or Bloomberg.
  • Familiarity with AI capabilities and productivity tools for optimizing operational and analytical processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • This position requires access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information.
  • Access to CSI and FOMC information is limited to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals who meet the definition of “protected individual” under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants.
  • All non-U.S. citizens authorized to access CSI and/or FOMC information must sign a declaration of intent to expeditiously become a lawful permanent resident and thereafter a U.S. citizen when eligible.
