About the Role
Baker Tilly is seeking a Tax Principal to focus on growing the Northern California Technology Industry market. This role involves delivering tax advisory and compliance services to middle market clients, mentoring staff, and contributing to the firm's growth and success. You will be a key business advisor, leading client relationships and consulting on various tax matters.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted leader of Baker Tilly’s tax services, providing federal tax compliance and consulting to commercial clients.
- Act as a valued tax business advisor, leading client relationships on day-to-day tax matters for middle market to multinational clients.
- Consult on technical matters and special projects in corporate and flow-through taxation, accounting methods, and ASC740.
- Research tax matters, respond to IRS and tax authority inquiries, and provide client recommendations.
- Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex state and local, high net worth, international, R&D, and credits and incentives matters.
- Oversee tax planning for federal and individual clients, and review complex tax research related to business transactions.
- Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based on client operations and objectives.
- Manage client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met.
- Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build relationships for acquiring new clients, projects, and revenue.
- Actively participate in request for proposals to pursue additional clients/services.
- Collaborate with service line leadership in developing tax service market positioning, strategy, and messaging.
- Invest in professional development individually and through firm-wide learning programs.
- Support the growth and development of team members, assisting associates with professional goals and recruitment efforts.
- Demonstrate leadership, initiative, excellent team skills, and high ethical standards.
- Represent the firm at key community events, firm functions, and other meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- CPA, JD or EA required.
- Fifteen (15)+ years’ experience providing federal tax compliance and consulting services in a professional services firm.
- Relevant industry experience is considered.
- Experience providing corporate tax services to the Technology Industry preferred.
- Five (5)+ years’ of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates.
- Demonstrated management, analytical, organization, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, and demonstrate commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to see the "big picture" as well as the details.
- Display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment.
- Exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and timely project completion.
- Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills.
