About the Role
The Health Specialist/Certified Medical Assistant has both clinical and clerical duties. This is an in-person, per diem position.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for medical visits, outpatient procedures, and physical exams by performing vital signs, updating medical history in the electronic health record, and noting any changes in health status.
- Perform data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintain patient files.
- Assist with processing incoming student medical forms.
- Act as a chaperone for sensitive exams or assist with bedside outpatient medical procedures.
- Provide phlebotomy services to students and employees.
- Process tissue and lab specimens and enter patient insurance information for outpatient labs.
- Autoclave instruments and send out weekly spore testing.
- Perform EKGs when ordered by providers.
- Obtain prior authorizations when necessary for providers.
- Prepare and stock exam rooms as needed.
- Provide compassionate and inclusive patient support and care during office visits.
- Assist patients with making follow-up appointments and referral appointments to off-campus providers and facilities.
- Assist with the management of office telephone systems, including answering calls and emails and returning messages.
- Assist in the front office with greeting patients, checking patients in and out for appointments, appointment scheduling, and making appointment confirmation reminders.
- Process and reconcile student account charges daily and track hold bills.
Requirements
- Three years of progressively responsible administrative support experience.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional technical systems.
- Ability to consistently apply policies and procedures.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
