About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and curious Hands-On Science Activity Specialist to bring the wonders of science to life for middle school students. This position focuses on interactive, project-based learning experiences that connect scientific concepts to real-world applications. The ideal candidate loves sparking curiosity, making science fun, and engaging students in activities that inspire them to think, explore, and problem-solve.

Responsibilities

Supervise all activities to ensure the health, safety and well-being of program participants.
Develop lesson plans of age-appropriate hands-on science activities and projects that will support the development of social-emotional learning competencies, seek to build skills and encourage collaboration.
Connect scientific concepts to everyday life so students understand the relevance of what they’re learning.
Use project-based learning strategies to encourage creativity, experimentation, and critical thinking.
Create a safe and inclusive environment that encourages students to ask questions, take risks, and explore new ideas.
Provide opportunities for teamwork and collaboration through group experiments and challenges.
Manage classroom and maintain positive learning environment.
Build positive relationships with youth and adults and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication and overall attitude.
Ensure proper care of all spaces and materials, organize room and report any misused or damaged materials to the Program Director.
Complete and submit in a timely manner all program reports relative to this position, including but not limited to: supply request, lesson plans, incident reports, attendance, and timesheets.
Assist Program Coordinator with ordering and maintaining equipment and/or supplies.
Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Strong knowledge of science concepts (physical, life, and/or earth sciences) and the ability to teach them in fun, practical ways.
Ability to develop and implement project-based learning activities.
Knowledge and understanding of youth development, after school and public education.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities, people and projects effectively.
Experience in providing individualized and group instruction to meet the needs of youth with various level of skills.
Experience designing and teaching courses to ensure youth success and supports youth-centered learning.
