About the Role

The Activity Specialist will develop and implement a variety of enrichment activities focused on creativity and self-expression for middle school students in an after-school program. This role involves teaching visual arts, fostering social-emotional learning, and creating an engaging, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all activities to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants.
• Develop age-appropriate visual arts lesson plans that support social-emotional learning, imagination, and artistic exploration.
• Facilitate purposeful activities to develop new skills in youth in an engaging, creative, and responsive manner.
• Manage the classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model.
• Ensure proper care of spaces and materials, organize the room, and report any misused or damaged materials.
• Complete and submit program reports, including supply requests, lesson plans, incident reports, attendance, and timesheets.
• Assist with ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies.
• Actively participate in training sessions, meetings, and special events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or current college student preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of academic preparation in visual arts, or equivalent training.
• Knowledge and understanding of youth development, after-school programs, and public education.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities, people, and projects effectively.
• Experience in providing individualized and group instruction to meet the needs of youth with various skill levels.
• Experience designing and teaching courses to ensure youth success and support youth-centered learning.
• Demonstrated knowledge of painting and drawing techniques (charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil).
• Other desirable skills include digital art, book arts, graphic design, installation, or fabrication.
• Genuine enthusiasm for professional development through training and field practice.
• Comply with School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements, including background check and medical clearance.
• Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or evidence of one dose prior to employment.
