About the Role
Action Pact is seeking a full-time Head Start Teacher Assistant to provide a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. The Teacher Assistant will support the assigned teacher in implementing classroom duties, child activities, and parent engagement as per performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily head count and complete daily attendance records and meal count.
- Follow an approved curriculum and daily schedule, and assist in development and implementation of daily lesson plans.
- Monitor, document, and follow the policy for reporting suspected child abuse.
- Observe, assess, and record the behavior of assigned children.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities and individualized prescriptive plans for children at risk.
- Compile an inventory and request/store adequate classroom materials and supplies.
- Assist with home visits to parents or guardians.
- Coordinate the activities of volunteers.
- Maintain confidential information regarding children, families, and the program.
- Assist in the implementation of the assigned curriculum.
- Demonstrate appropriate classroom management techniques.
- Advise parents of progress and/or problems of each child and document all contacts.
- Be courteous and receptive to all Head Start parents and encourage participation.
- Supervise the arrival and departure of children and assist with loading/unloading buses.
- Establish, utilize, and identify a variety of interest areas within the classroom.
- Ensure rooms are neat and attractive, and children's work is displayed at eye level.
- Ensure evidence in each child's folder that their program of activities and experiences are planned and based on ongoing assessment.
- Maintain classroom records in the absence of the Teacher.
- Report needs for equipment repair or replacement to the Teacher.
- Coordinate with appropriate community resources.
- Promote parent and community volunteers and actively seek In-Kind donations.
- Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
- Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A preschool CDA/TCC is required.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
