About the Role

To assist the Front-End Manager in providing friendly, fast, and accurate customer service, ensuring proper cash handling, maintaining store cleanliness and security, and conducting daily communications and training while upholding personnel policies.

Responsibilities

  • Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect to encourage repeat business.
  • Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established standards.
  • Manage customer flow through registers by opening adequate lanes during peak demand.
  • Provide customers with product information and educational materials.
  • Exceed customer expectations when resolving complaints.
  • Ensure a pleasant customer experience by managing in-store music.
  • Maintain a fully stocked and organized customer service desk.
  • Handle returns and report questionable products to Department Managers.
  • Supervise the cashier department, ensuring fast, accurate, and friendly checkout.
  • Arrange coverage for cashier schedule gaps due to emergencies and sick calls.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve register breakdowns.
  • Provide refresher training, ongoing membership training, and procedural updates to cashiers.
  • Ensure adequate supplies at registers (register tape, pens, bags, sacks, etc.).
  • Assist in ensuring cashiers are aware of policy changes affecting cashiering.
  • Ensure the security of all cash handled through registers.
  • Assist with cash count duties including drops, deposits, register counts, coin drawer counts, and armored service coordination.
  • Coordinate tasks and projects for cashiers during non-peak customer times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization standards for the register area and common areas (bathrooms, maintenance area, floors, break room, offices).
  • Set and assign daily cleaning and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain a clean exterior property including parking lot, patio, and sidewalks.
  • Organize, retrieve, and clean carts; maintain a clean vestibule and hand baskets.
  • Clean up spills throughout the store as needed.
  • Operate floor cleaning machinery as necessary.
  • Oversee the behaviors, safety, and security of all supervised staff.
  • Record tardiness, sick calls, and misconduct; counsel staff according to procedures.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions to the Front-End Manager.
  • Participate in hiring and performance evaluations of cashiers.
  • Utilize motivation and encouragement in staff supervision.
  • Continue to develop management skills.
  • Manage staff in accordance with the Employee Handbook and Personnel Policies.
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the store.
  • Adhere to all security procedures.
  • Answer and route phone calls, taking and routing messages as needed.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Experienced serving the public.
  • Ability to maintain high energy for up to eight hours.
  • Ability to work standing for up to 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and prioritize tasks.
