About the Role
Slash is hiring its Founding Product Designer, the first dedicated design hire. This role will set the visual and product language for all company outputs, from the core banking product to marketing materials. The position requires a blend of product design, creative range for art direction and illustration, and direct collaboration with founders and engineers, ensuring designed features reach customers.
Responsibilities
- Own product design end-to-end, from initial sketch to shipped product.
- Establish the design system, defining visual and interaction language for the core product.
- Direct Slash's visual identity, including brand, marketing site, decks, event graphics, and social content.
- Work directly with engineers to prototype, test, and ship product features.
- Utilize AI tools like Claude and Cursor to clarify problems, explore directions, and prototype flows.
- Engage directly with customers to validate design decisions.
- Build the design function by setting tools, processes, and quality standards, and participate in hiring future designers.
Requirements
- Strong product design fundamentals, including interaction design and systems thinking.
- Ability to simplify complex financial products without compromising clarity.
- Demonstrated creative range beyond UI, including graphic design, illustration, or art direction.
- A portfolio showcasing ownership of projects from ambiguous problems to successful outcomes.
- Comfort operating and building processes in an ambiguous environment.
- Active use of AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor in your workflow.
- Experience at a fast-growing startup, ideally in a founding or early design role (strong plus).
- Must be based in San Francisco and work from the office.
