About the Role

Learns to assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. This role is crucial for supporting skilled cooks and ensuring smooth kitchen operations.

Responsibilities

  • Learns to read menus to estimate food requirements and order food from suppliers or storage.
  • Prepares and cooks food according to company production records and standardized recipes.
  • Learns to adjust thermostat controls for ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles.
  • Helps measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils, and steams meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods under guidance.
  • Adds seasoning to food during mixing or cooking under instruction.
  • Tests food by tasting, smelling, and piercing to determine doneness.
  • Carves meat and portions food onto serving plates, adding gravies, sauces, and garnishes as directed.
  • Washes, peels, cuts, and shreds fruits and vegetables.
  • Butchers chicken, fish, and shellfish as directed.
  • Bakes bread, rolls, cakes, and pastry as instruction permits.
  • Maintains work area and equipment, following sanitation and safety principles.
  • Interacts with customers and coworkers courteously, efficiently, and in a friendly manner.
  • Ensures compliance with company service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years of cooking experience is required.
  • Prior catering experience is preferred.
  • Open availability is required.
  • Abides by all Company policies and procedures.
  • Use of medium weight cut gloves when handling knives, peelers, choppers, mandolins, or cleaning a slicer.
  • Use of oven mitts, fryer gloves, or steamer gloves when handling hot pans.
  • Use of slip-resistant shoes and proper lifting techniques.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
