About the Role
The Export Specialist facilitates the movement of products, equipment, and materials out of the country via ocean and air freight, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant laws. This role also provides customer service for bookings, rates, document production, accounting, agent interaction, and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate necessary documentation for efficient, cost-effective, and lawful export activities.
- Coordinate cargo pickup/transfer and monitor status.
- Communicate with export-related authorities, customers, and suppliers to ensure efficient, positive, and lawful relations.
- Obtain spot rates when necessary.
- Communicate with overseas agents and clients regarding pre-alerts, rate requests, and shipment status.
- Track shipments and update customers/agents on status.
- Create and maintain customer files.
- Create customer invoices and approve payables.
- Audit files for accuracy and completion.
- Ensure accurate data entry and document upload into the system.
- Assist other departments/divisions as needed or requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience handling Exports (air and/or ocean) or a combination of education and expertise.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility.
- Detail-oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Able to work in a team and independently.
- Knowledge of US customs laws, practices, and procedures.
- Fluency in English required.
- Background check required to determine felony conviction status.
Skills
- Microsoft Office suite proficiency is a plus.
- Additional languages are preferred.
- Experience in the freight forwarding industry is preferred.
