About the Role

Establish a culture of excellence in a brand-new Long-Term Care facility by planning, developing, and overseeing high-quality nursing and therapy services in consultation with the Executive Director. This role is ideal for an experienced nursing leader eager to shape a resident-centered approach in a state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and supervise all high-quality nursing, therapy, and restorative care activities for the opening and ongoing operations of the new facility.
  • Promote a caring environment that supports the practice of therapeutically effective nursing care.
  • Advocate for residents by actively following up on concerns to promote optimal health, independence, and comfort.
  • Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges by reviewing all applications for resident placement in the new LTC home.
  • Develop and implement an effective internal budgeting, expenditure, and inventory control system for the department.
  • Lead risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection control, occupational health and safety, and incident/falls prevention.
  • Ensure coordination of resident care across multi-disciplinary services.
  • Manage and control all pharmaceutical supplies and department inventory.
  • Recruit, hire, and build an agile, effective, and highly engaged nursing team.
  • Coach, mentor, monitor, and evaluate professional and non-professional staff.
  • Oversee comprehensive orientation and regular in-service training programs for the incoming team.
  • Act as Chair for the Professional Advisory Committee, Registered Nursing Staff Meetings, and Nursing Departmental Meetings.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Health on relevant issues and provide timely statistical reporting.
  • Collaborate regularly with attending physicians, pharmacists, laboratories, agencies, and hospitals.
  • Assist the Executive Director with the general administration of the LTC Home and keep up-to-date with industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Current RN Registration with a Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation, and Long-Term Care Nursing.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an RN in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a healthcare setting (LTC preferred).
  • Current CPR Certificate.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen result.
  • Proven experience preparing, managing, and monitoring departmental financial budgets.
  • Strong leadership and change-management skills with the flexibility to adapt to a highly demanding environment.
  • Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation, presentation, and computer literacy skills.
