About the Role
This position is an integral member of the health care team at different centers, providing support to nursing staff and health providers in addressing patient healthcare needs and ensuring continuity and quality of care.
Responsibilities
- Performs/assists in vital signs measurement, EKG, BMI, vision tests, specimen collections, and venipuncture.
- Provides/assists with appropriate medical triage of patients.
- Stocks examination rooms with supplies daily and as needed.
- Assists providers with procedures and routine examinations.
- Records pertinent medical information in medical records.
- Assists nurses in preparing, completing, and maintaining medical records and reports.
- Performs routine clinical administrative operations including photocopying charts, updating logs, following up on labs and referrals, and communicating with patients.
- Assists nurses in checking emergency box and refrigerator temperatures.
- Assists nurses with ordering medications, vaccines, and medical supplies.
- Provides health counseling to patients, including HIV counseling.
- Facilitates related services for health center patients while respecting confidentiality and privacy.
- Coordinates with the health care team to facilitate high-quality health services.
- Ensures compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from a New York State Licensed School
- Current BLS Certification or ability to obtain within two (2) weeks of hire
- Minimum of two (2) years of medical assistant experience (for MA II)
