About the Role
As a Manager in our Chemicals practice, you will help leading chemical and materials companies navigate critical commercial and strategic questions related to growth, profit maximization, and commercial execution. You will work at the intersection of commercial strategy, pricing, sales, and commercial transformation, leading project teams and collaborating with senior executives to drive measurable revenue and profit impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end consulting engagements for chemical and materials companies, from strategic hypothesis development and commercial validation through design and implementation.
- Help clients identify where and how to win, translating market, customer and competitor insights into clear growth priorities and commercially robust strategies.
- Challenge growth strategies through explicit sources of growth, right-to-win, price-volume economics and value-capture logic.
- Develop differentiated commercial approaches for commodity, moderately differentiated, specialty and solution businesses, recognizing that different business models require different pricing, sales, contracting and steering models.
- Design and implement commercial strategies, route-to-market models and commercial operating models, including customer segmentation, channel strategy, governance, decision rights, KPIs and organizational interfaces.
- Accelerate commercialization and application-led growth, helping clients convert innovation and technical capabilities into customer adoption and profitable growth.
- Improve commercial performance through pricing, customer and portfolio steering, share-of-wallet development, key account management, contracting and Sales Excellence.
- Help clients adapt to structural changes in the chemicals industry, including changing value chains, regionalization, circularity and sustainability, new sources of competitive advantage and increasing pressure on European assets.
- Work directly with senior management and C-level executives, facilitate management discussions and translate complex analysis into clear decisions and actionable recommendations.
- Manage and develop project teams, providing clear problem solving, coaching and feedback while ensuring high-quality delivery.
- Contribute to business development by developing client relationships, identifying relevant strategic questions and shaping compelling project approaches.
- Advance Simon-Kucher’s Chemicals expertise through new perspectives, methodologies and thought leadership on profitable growth and commercial transformation.
Requirements
- Hold a university degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry, Natural Sciences or another relevant field.
- Bring at least four years of relevant professional experience in strategy consulting, a specialized consultancy, in-house consulting or a commercial role in chemicals, materials or a related B2B industry.
- Have a strong interest in how chemical and materials businesses create and capture value; prior chemicals experience is highly desirable but deep curiosity and the ability to learn complex industries quickly are equally important.
- Be comfortable addressing questions that combine strategy and execution – from market attractiveness and competitive positioning to pricing, sales, organization and performance management.
- Can structure ambiguous problems, formulate hypotheses, work confidently with quantitative and qualitative evidence, and translate insights into clear management recommendations.
- Understand that commercial models differ across commodity, specialty and solution businesses and can think beyond generic Commercial Excellence playbooks.
- Have successfully led workstreams or projects and can manage multiple stakeholders while maintaining analytical depth and delivery quality.
- Enjoy working with senior executives, can challenge constructively and communicate complex topics clearly and concisely.
- Combine intellectual curiosity with pragmatism: you want to understand why a strategy should work and what it takes to make it work in the market.
- Have initial experience leading and coaching colleagues and enjoy developing high-performing teams.
- Are entrepreneurial, client-focused and interested in contributing to the continued development of our Chemicals practice.
