About the Role
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) seeks an experienced workforce development professional to support the Career and Education Division. The C&E Network provides a clear pathway into living-wage employment in careers with high-growth potential in NYC. This role specializes in supporting young adults ready to excel in the workforce by providing customizable training sequences, one-on-one coaching, and other career development services.
Responsibilities
- Engage High School students interested in career training.
- Coordinate with school-based partners to reach youth opting out of traditional college access support.
- Assess and create individualized career training access plans with students, considering interests, skills, and long-term job prospects.
- Facilitate transition to targeted career training through trips, joint information sessions, and coordination with training providers.
- Curate and expand a network of high-quality career training partners, including CHLDC's options and vetting additional reputable pathways.
- Coordinate engagement with employer partners for guest speakers, work-based learning, field trips, internships, and graduate employment.
- Understand the labor market, industry standards, and current trends to ensure effective pathways to self-sufficiency for participants.
- Facilitate job readiness training for program cohorts (resume writing, interview preparation, professional communication, etc.).
- Provide customized retention interventions for young adults focusing on career training adjustment, workforce navigation, job changes, avoiding termination, and career advancement planning.
- Coordinate and host bi-monthly networking events to connect program alumni with employers and support.
- Participate in case conferencing with training program staff to ensure seamless integration of employment, youth development, and educational services.
- Participate on a CHLDC committee and agency-wide initiatives as required.
- Participate as a team member of the Student Success Centers for case conferencing and service integration.
- Maintain knowledge of all Career and Education programs at CHLDC to effectively connect students.
- Adhere to policies and procedures for maintaining a safe working environment and prioritizing participant safety.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is produced and maintained for all contracts.
- Participate in training and agency meetings as requested.
- Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Resources, Education or similar degree required.
- Two (2) years’ experience in an education, youth services, and/or workforce development field preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to work in a high change environment.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
- Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
