About the Role

The Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is building a pool of non-tenure track adjunct faculty to teach on-campus, in-person Sociology courses for the Spring 2027 semester or future academic terms. Teaching additional courses in future semesters is contingent upon funding, departmental needs, and candidate availability. The department seeks candidates experienced in teaching Sociology and related subjects, with potential courses including introductory sociology, statistics, and specialized topics like race and racism, deviance, and gender.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate sociology course(s)
Mentor/advise undergraduates
Maintain Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) certification each semester
Contact the Department Chair within 24 hours with any student concerns or issues
Check UMass email every 24 business hours during the teaching semester
Respond to UMass student email within 24 business hours

Requirements

Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field, or a master’s with commensurate professional experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with diverse populations
Experience mentoring/advising undergraduates
