About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking an Ambulatory Technologist to assist providers during patient exams, perform clinical tasks, and support patient care in outpatient clinics. This role involves technical, procedural, and information systems tasks focused on patient comfort, care, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assists providers during exams and performs clinical tasks in support of patient care.
• Sets up, operates, and adjusts medical equipment.
• Attaches patients to diagnostic and medical equipment.
• Provides information, comfort, and care to patients during exams.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment for smooth operations and patient safety.
• Escorts patients, obtains vital signs, and performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection.
• Enters patient data, condition, and care into the electronic medical record system.
• Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, including reordering and inventory management.
• Implements standard infection prevention measures and monitors for breaches.
• Precepts new Ambulatory Technologists under RN oversight.
• Performs administrative duties, including scheduling and registration.
• Assists providers with patient processes, prepares rooms and instrumentation for procedures.
• Provides basic patient instruction regarding procedures.
• Anticipates provider needs during procedures and obtains additional instrumentation.
• Dresses wounds at the completion of procedures.
• Checks and calibrates equipment, sets up sterile fields, and sterilizes instruments.
• Prepares and labels specimens accurately for the lab.
• Reviews discharge instructions with patients.
• May train and coordinate activities of peers or support staff.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associates degree preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer experience is preferred.
• Band Two status requires a minimum of 6 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in the ambulatory clinic setting.
• Band Three status requires a minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible professional work experience as an ambulatory technologist.
• Eligibility for advancement consideration requires the technologist to be in good performance standing.
• Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the manager.
• Movement to a higher band requires final approval from the Ambulatory Nursing Director in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the care ladder as a band three if the need exists.
