About the Role

This position performs various semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and construction tasks, including maintenance and preventive maintenance. Independent judgment is required for handling job details, and tasks may be assigned based on the worker's training and skill capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster procedures.
  • Provides a safe environment by identifying and addressing unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner daily.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment.
  • Carries out duties in a safe professional manner with a focus on customer service.
  • Uses Life Safety Drawings to identify smoke and fire barrier construction.
  • Anticipates potential and environmental safety hazards and takes appropriate actions.
  • Uses proper lifting techniques.
  • Assures proper machine guards are in place.
  • Understands and uses the departments lock out tag out system for equipment under repair.
  • Is available for on-call duty as required.
  • Works additional hours if required, including occasional shift changes.
  • Participates in availability for unscheduled emergencies.
  • Participates in the Facilities On-Call Weekly Program.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on designated hospital equipment.
  • Changes medical compressed gas cylinders when needed.
  • Performs basic plumbing tasks.
  • Performs basic electrical tasks.
  • Performs basic carpentry tasks.
  • Performs basic HVAC tasks.
  • Installs new equipment in accordance with manufacturer and CMC system standards.
  • Assembles fixtures and furniture.
  • Performs PM Inspections as directed by the Facility Manager.
  • Installs filters in all types of HVAC equipment.
  • Maintains tools, inventory, and equipment.
  • Assists other members of the department with performing required duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Helps to move furniture and other designated pieces of equipment.
  • Accurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve maintenance-related data.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the work order system.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma OR equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one year experience as a handyman helper or laborer in mechanical or construction trades.
  • Ability to perform all types of maintenance and minor construction functions.
  • Understanding of maintenance and construction terminology.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform climbing, bending, and working in tight spaces while off a ladder.
