About the Role

The Career Specialist provides employment and training services to individuals facing barriers to employment, including those dependent on public benefits, with disabilities, unemployed, or underemployed. Services encompass client recruitment, orientation, service plan development, job placement, counseling, and post-employment support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vocational and training services to transition youth and adults facing employment barriers.
  • Perform participant assessment, service strategy development, employment counseling, and post-employment follow-up.
  • Orient new participants to program benefits, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Interview and assess individuals for job readiness, barriers, and needs, including skills upgrades and training.
  • Recruit eligible participants through outreach to schools, agencies, community organizations, and employers.
  • Create and implement service strategy plans for work experience, vocational skills, and training programs.
  • Assist participants in securing competitive employment, entering the military, or pursuing post-secondary education.
  • Serve as a liaison between jobseekers and employers through referrals and business services.
  • Collaborate with agencies, schools, and staff to meet WIOA regulations for youth and young adults.
  • Implement and market the youth WIOA work experience program.
  • Collect, coordinate, and report on educational and employment outcomes, goal achievement, and program information.
  • Conduct follow-up efforts.
  • Manage cases and ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Meet regularly with participants to monitor progress and offer support.
  • Conduct workshops.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of personnel, guidance, sales, or social work experience.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the world of work and the needs of young adults and adults with barriers to employment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Reliable access to personal automobile.
