About the Role
Jigsaw is seeking an embedded data privacy advisor to serve as the primary point of contact for data and privacy inquiries across product, engineering, and customer-facing teams. This fractional role, starting at approximately two days per week in-office, focuses on translating legal and technical complexities into actionable, commercially-focused responses. The advisor will handle compliance actions for new product releases, manage customer-specific compliance needs, analyze DPAs, and address client questions regarding AI features. This role requires a flexible approach due to the diverse compliance needs of global clients in regulated industries, emphasizing ongoing advisory work over standardized solutions.
Responsibilities
- Act as the go-to person for data and privacy questions across the business in product meetings, customer rollout calls, and migration conversations.
- Translate specific customer contract terms into practical, commercial recommendations, weighing real risk instead of defaulting to 'no'.
- Advise on cross-border and international data transfer questions.
- Join customer calls to speak credibly with clients' own data privacy counsel.
- Translate complex legal and technical concepts clearly for non-legal, technical teams internally.
- Help build a 'privacy by design' culture at Jigsaw, embedding privacy thinking at the start of projects.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve templates, playbooks, and processes, in addition to handling day-to-day reactive work.
Requirements
- A working understanding of UK & US privacy laws, including UK & EU GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act and CCPA, ideally with experience applying them in a live commercial context.
- Genuine on-the-ground experience inside a tech company building product; not suitable for a purely private-practice legal background.
- Comfort with cross-border and international data transfer questions.
- Commercial, pragmatic, solution-minded operator capable of weighing risk and proposing workable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both with legally sophisticated clients and non-legal internal teams.
- High ownership balanced with genuine collaboration and consensus-building ability.
- Comfort with a fractional working pattern, with pragmatic flexibility for urgent issues.
