About the Role

The Specialised Electronic Trading Infrastructure (SETI) team is seeking an experienced Linux, Hardware, and Infrastructure Services Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust, resilient, and scalable infrastructure automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and support Linux server-based solutions for algorithmic trading.
  • Utilize advanced features of the Morgan Stanley Linux configuration platform for system delivery and maintenance.
  • Evaluate specialized hardware components like FPGAs for enterprise supportability, including vendor liaison and ensuring driver/firmware updates.
  • Collaborate with development groups, system administrators, and infrastructure engineers to implement solutions that reduce costs and manage technology risk.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the Linux-based electronic trading infrastructure platform.
  • Mentor, coach, and lead less experienced engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership and vision for a small business-aligned team of system administrators and SREs.
  • Drive continuous improvement of infrastructure and working practices using SRE techniques.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of Linux systems administration, hardware, and configuration management techniques.
  • Advanced Linux and network troubleshooting skills, including knowledge of standard debugging tools (e.g., tcpdump, strace).
  • Experience using Python for task automation and familiarity with software engineering concepts (e.g., data structures, regular expressions, automated testing).
  • Experience architecting large-scale, robust, resilient, and supportable systems.
  • Domain expertise in infrastructure automation and integration.
  • Familiarity with modern development tools and practices (e.g., agentic-workflows, git, jenkins, TDD, CI).
  • Ability to take full-lifecycle ownership of project components, from design to support.
