About the Role

The Reserve Valuation team is part of the Corporate Actuarial department and is responsible for the actuarial valuation of loss reserves, including incurred losses, IBNR, reserve adjustments, and movement analyses, within the context of financial closings and corporate governance.

Responsibilities

  • Quarterly reserve valuations
  • Establish actuarial reserves for all lines of business and methodologies underlying key assumptions used in the quarterly valuation process
  • Monthly monitoring and modification of key assumptions over time and measurement of the impacts of changes
  • Delivery of claims liabilities and ultimate profitability of insurance entities
  • Develop and present forward-looking analyses that transform complex reserve results into clear findings on emerging trends
  • Development, improvement, and optimization of tools and techniques to ensure their relevance based on the specific circumstances of different lines of business
  • Preparation of reports
  • Maintenance and creation of meaningful reports to track the evolution of actuarial reserves over time
  • Current losses are compared to expected losses monthly
  • Creation of appointed actuary reports for all legal entities
  • Coordinate communication and certification of financial results with various business partners, including external auditors, AMF, and OSFI
  • Implementation of risk control measures and improvement of policies, procedures, and processes within the team
  • Mentor, develop, and inspire colleagues towards achieving their goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or a related field of study
  • Associate designation or ambition to pursue CAS, CIA exams, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an actuarial field related to property and casualty insurance
  • Proficient in MS Excel (VBA) and programming languages (e.g., R/Python)
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 is an asset
  • Ability to make quick decisions in certain situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to adapt communication based on the audience
  • Ability to work effectively during peak periods
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various business partners and build lasting relationships

  • Proficiency in another language besides French to provide support or deal with employees who require services and support in a language other than French
