About the Role
The Clinical Nurse for the Mount Sinai nursing float pool provides safe, competent, and quality care based on nursing theory and research to a diverse group of patients across various assigned units.
Responsibilities
- Delivers patient care by incorporating Relationship Centered Care principles and the nursing process.
- Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, applying critical thinking in patient management.
- Integrates assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team on patient care plans.
- Prioritizes patient care activities, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educates patients and caregivers on their plan of care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Manages assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing Care Delivery Model.
- Role models Relationship Centered Care through specific patient interaction actions.
- Considers patient values, preferences, and needs in all aspects of care.
- Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Uses evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiates service recovery for patient concerns and escalates as needed.
- Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
- Supports staff use of evidence-based practices.
- Conducts Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) on assigned patients.
- Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers.
- Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety.
- Implements process improvement strategies based on institutional standards.
- Engages in peer and institutional review processes.
- Collaborates on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and research studies.
- Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures.
- Implements principles of high reliability to ensure a safe patient environment.
- Escalates potential safety hazards or deviations from best practice.
- Utilizes institutional information technology for documentation to support quality initiatives.
- Performs charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinates with leadership to ensure adequate supplies and inventory.
- Escalates material or staffing resource deficits.
- Demonstrates patient-focused and cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
- Documents nursing practice accurately and thoroughly.
- Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis.
- Contributes to a supportive environment for colleagues, patients, and families.
- Advances clinical competence in nursing practice.
- Projects a professional image and communicates with respect and empathy.
- Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making.
- Encourages scholarship, inquiry, lifelong learning, and innovation.

Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing program.
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN who is matriculated in a BSN Program with a graduation date within the year.
- Any Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN with Nursing experience must be approved by the CNO.
- Relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice assigned.
- New graduates must possess current knowledge of the nursing process and its application.
- Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State.
- Basic Life Saver (BCLS) Certification.
- NRP Certification (Labor and Delivery, NICU dept).
- ACLS Certification (in ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology (CCL/EP/Echo); L&D; Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology).
