About the Role

Advance and support the development of electric drive (E-drive) control system components for the All Electric Navy, contributing to more capable and affordable submarines. Opportunities exist to advance propulsion control technology and support the COLUMBIA Class program, with expansion into internal research and development for new components.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze control systems using MATLAB & Simulink in time and frequency domains.
  • Define system and component-level requirements using IBM Rational DOORS.
  • Develop and document test cases and testing plans.
  • Prepare practical demonstrations of proposed solutions for peer review.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and program engineers to ensure adherence to requirements.
  • Perform and analyze performance of motor drive and control systems using model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Carry out design reviews and technical working meetings.
  • Contribute to engineering/design reports and presentations.
  • Plan, organize, and manage tasking and workflow to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Generate and report project schedule/cost metrics (CPI, SPI) and perform EVMS.
  • Facilitate internal and external technical/programmatic discussions and meetings.
  • Track project workbooks and next-actions.
  • Communicate project metrics, status, and next-actions to stakeholders.
  • Use Microsoft Project to track and manage component development and integration.
  • Support program reviews with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate material orders with internal stakeholders.
  • Drive and facilitate Agile development.
  • Perform requirement analysis, hardware/software design, software development and test, and hardware/software integration.
  • Select commercial-off-the-shelf and custom components for rapid prototyping.
  • Document code and contribute to engineering/design reports.

Requirements

  • B.S. or B.E. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 0-5 years post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the U.S. DoD (must be a U.S. citizen).
  • Prior technical experience in embedded system design, control system design, computer/software engineering, or hardware engineering is desired, but not required.
  • Familiarity with Agile development.
  • Experience with controls rapid prototyping via auto-code generation is desired.
  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering undergraduate and graduate coursework paths.
  • Software, embedded software development experience in C, C++, Assembly, or Java.
  • Hardware/system description language experience (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, SystemC) is desired, but not required.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard serial (RS-232/422/485, I2C, SPI) and high-speed serial protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, SRIO, etc.) and experience with fiber-optic communication systems is highly desired.
  • Experience with Xilinx, Microsemi, Texas Instruments, and Intel product lines and offerings.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, QT, Jira, Git.
  • Undergraduate/Graduate coursework in project management, engineering management, or business is highly desired.
  • Advanced engineering degrees are preferred.
  • Prior experience within the defense sector, as part of prime contracts or R&D efforts is preferred.
  • Project lead experience is preferred.
  • Currently-held security clearance (DoD Secret, DoD TS) is preferred.
