About the Role

Twist Bioscience is seeking an exceptional R&D scientist with expertise in cell biology and protein expression/purification, focusing on antibodies, to lead and advance our protein sciences capabilities. The role requires a curious, technically adept, and driven individual who can function as both a hands-on bench scientist and a leader in building people and processes. Initially, you will be an individual contributor, executing and refining core workflows while defining the technical roadmap. As the team expands, you will continue to be involved in experimental design and bench work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop small- and medium-scale antibody production workflows for various formats, culture systems, and purification methods.
  • Enhance all stages of the antibody development workflow, including construct design, cell line development, cell culture, purification, and analytics.
  • Establish and manage a team of scientists and research associates.
  • Independently design, execute, and analyze experiments.
  • Advance projects efficiently, manage time and resources, and prioritize tasks aligned with company goals.
  • Document and communicate results clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate effectively and proactively with team members.
  • Stay current with new developments, companies, and technologies in the field.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert, possessing a profound understanding of all aspects of the work, including adjacent details.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience in designing, expressing, and optimizing monoclonal antibodies, with a demonstrated understanding of Fc structure–function relationships.
  • Proven experience with bispecific antibody architectures, including knob-in-hole, CrossMab, and common light chain, along with chain pairing control and mispairing mitigation.
  • Hands-on experience with antibody characterization methods such as SEC, CE-SDS, binding kinetics (BLI or SPR), and basic biophysical profiling (DSF, DLS).
  • Demonstrated ability to build, improve, and standardize antibody generation workflows beyond executing existing SOPs.
  • Strong mechanistic understanding of antibody biology, structure, and expression bottlenecks.
  • A track record of successful and creative method development.
  • Experience with liquid-handling systems and automation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Python or equivalent programming languages is a plus.
