About the Role

The Medical Assistant provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Provider, contributing to a team approach to patient care. This role ensures age-appropriate, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and core values.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients by obtaining complete intake and adhering to the provider's schedule with efficiency and accuracy.
• Documents patient preparation, including chief complaint, vital signs, and pain level; obtains peak flow and pulse oximetry when indicated.
• Reviews allergies and medication lists with patients, determines renewal needs, and prepares orders for provider approval.
• Reviews patient health history, including preventative, social, and past medical conditions; utilizes resources for patient education and follow-up care.
• Informs the provider of changes in patient health status.
• Provides high-quality patient care in urgent and primary care settings.
• Assists with inventory and receipt of medical supplies and equipment.
• Adheres to standards, policies, and procedures for diagnostic and point-of-care testing, including specimen collection, quality assurance, EMR documentation, and patient education.
• Participates in Network committees, staff, and departmental meetings.
• Contributes to teamwork and presents a positive, patient-minded vision.
• Stays current on relevant standards, policies, procedures, and infection control requirements.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes medical equipment according to standards.
• Maintains annual competencies and required continuing education for Medical Assistant Certification.
• Monitors compliance with daily/weekly/monthly checklists for room stocking, environmental cleaning, and equipment quality control.
• Supports training of other non-licensed clinical staff.
• Serves on departmental initiatives supporting the Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
• Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must achieve Network Medical Assistant Certification within 90 days of signing the job description.
• 1 year of healthcare experience; prior experience in ambulatory care preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Demonstrated computer competencies including electronic medical record and/or practice management experience.
• Knowledge of medical assistant standards of care.
• Must be self-directed, detail-oriented, motivated, and able to work independently and in a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
