About the Role
The Childcare Specialist will assist with a grant-funded project to connect families in Brooklyn to childcare assistance, utilizing high-level interpersonal and problem-solving skills to identify and screen families, assist in connecting them with providers, track enrollment, and maintain project data.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need of childcare assistance.
- Screen families for eligibility and complete applications.
- Enroll childcare providers in the program and assist them in enrolling children.
- Build knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape in Brooklyn to assist families.
- Determine the appropriate childcare type and setting to meet family eligibility and needs.
- Conduct yearly recertifications for continuing eligibility and enrollment.
- Engage families and childcare providers, troubleshoot, and assist them with using assistance.
- Conduct visits to childcare providers.
- Provide information or referrals for childcare for families not eligible for assistance.
- Refer families to CFLSP Benefits Access & Enrollment team and other CFLSP programs and resources.
- Collaborate with the fiscal department to track and distribute funds.
- Track childcare enrollment and recertification.
- Maintain project data.
- Create and maintain case records for each family and provider.
- Attend meetings with the project team, funder, and stakeholders.
- Participate in advocacy efforts as requested.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, or Mandarin, preferred.
- Experience in community engagement or other forms of direct service.
- Knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape or willingness to learn.
- Excellent telephone and email etiquette.
- Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated cultural competence with immigrant communities.
- Friendly, highly dependable, and flexible.
- Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors.
- Effectively communicate with families and outside agency staff.
- Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients.
- Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change.
