About the Role
Join Qonto as a Principal Backend Engineer in the Foundations domain to scale critical systems powering over 600,000 customers and drive company-wide backend initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Anticipate and solve scale challenges before they impact core systems, including daily transactions, search indexing, and billing.
- Drive architectural work to ensure Qonto's infrastructure keeps pace with growth.
- Lead end-to-end technical initiatives spanning multiple teams and involving Legal, Risk, and Compliance.
- Identify future investment areas for the platform, such as granular permissions and AI-native integrations.
- Translate strategic bets into technical roadmaps.
- Elevate the skills of engineers through mentoring, coaching programs, and technical enablement.
- Connect company and customer needs to concrete technical plans.
- Communicate technical plans clearly to both engineers and executives.
Requirements
- Experience designing and scaling high-volume backend systems (transactions, search/indexing, billing, or similar) under growth pressure.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-team initiatives involving Legal, Risk, and Compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to tie technical decisions to business outcomes.
- Thrive in ambiguous environments, map ecosystems, surface risks early, and propose initiatives proactively.
- Experience raising the bar for groups of engineers through mentoring, documentation, or technical enablement.
- Proficiency in using AI tools to accelerate architecture, prototyping, and communication.
- Excitement about the potential of AI-native integrations for a platform.
