About the Role
The Accountant is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for supporting the month-end close process and assisting with the preparation of accurate and timely journal entries, consolidated financial statements, reconciliations, working papers, and variance analysis. The role contributes to ensuring compliance with ASPE, internal controls, and company policies. The Accountant supports the annual audit process and collaborates with cross-functional teams, providing financial support on various projects and initiatives while contributing to process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Support the monthly financial close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with ASPE.
- Prepare month-end accounting entries and perform period-end financial analysis.
- Complete account reconciliations and variance analyses.
- Prepare deliverables for the annual external financial statement audit, including supporting schedules, working papers, financial statements, note disclosures, and corporate tax return information.
- Prepare monthly sales tax remittance filings and payments across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payment and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Support the preparation of Board meeting materials and monthly reporting packages.
- Maintain ownership over the sales accounting process for Retail and Ecommerce revenue streams and the retail accounting process.
- Monitor the Retail Accounting inbox and act as a key point of contact for store and internal teams on finance-related questions and issues.
- Own and prepare reporting submissions for various Statistics Canada filings.
- Partner with the Regulatory and Operations teams to manage recycling and stewardship programs, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and the timely completion of all required external reporting.
- Provide financial support to management through ad hoc analysis, special projects, and other initiatives as required.
- Participate in and lead process improvement initiatives across financial and operational functions.
- Assist in the implementation and enhancement of processes and systems to streamline operations and improve financial accuracy.

Requirements
- A CPA designation or actively pursuing a CPA designation, along with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and industry experience, with both strong technical knowledge and practical business application.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with ASPE and full-cycle accounting.
- Proven experience supporting financial audits and tax compliance preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems, work independently, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- A highly motivated and growth-oriented mindset, with a desire to take on increasing responsibilities.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and mentor others.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and hands-on experience with ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX is considered a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of Copilot an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
