About the Role
The Senior Group Insurance Underwriter is responsible for assessing risk and making decisions related to the sale, amendment, and renewal of assigned cases. This role involves analyzing intricate data, making informed decisions, and potentially providing annual financial reports to clients. You will gain exposure to the entire client lifecycle and interact with all Group departments, requiring ownership over processes and policies. This role requires Reliability Status security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Performing analysis for quoting, negotiating, and authorizing risk acceptance within a specified authority level.
- Ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and underwriting guidelines.
- Managing the pricing of assigned in-force caseload, including annual rate and expense renewals, in-force quotes, marketings, and amendment approvals.
- Managing all aspects of financial reporting for an assigned caseload.
- Producing financial and service agreements on assigned caseload.
- Quotation of new business.
- Communicating decisions and responding promptly and professionally to requests from business development representatives, clients, or advisors.
- Building positive working relationships with peers and other internal business areas.
- Meeting with Senior Leaders as appropriate, respecting specified authority levels.
- Acting as an Underwriting resource for various projects and departmental initiatives.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
- Effective and efficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
- Strong analytical skills with good judgment, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making capabilities.
- Influential and persuasive negotiation skills to reach mutually beneficial outcomes while maintaining positive relationships.
- Customer-centric approach, prioritizing the customer in all actions.
- Prior experience in Group Underwriting with a strong understanding of group products.
- Experience with Group mainframe (PAS) and GroupNet reporting is considered an asset.
- Willingness to work towards a GBA or full CEBS designation under the CEBS program.
- Reliability Status security clearance is required.
