About the Role
The Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform research in the area of electric power grids. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of a one-year renewal.
Responsibilities
- Perform cyber-physical system modeling and simulation for the power grid.
- Perform research on power system dynamics and control under high inverter-based resources (IBRs).
- Develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning, operation, control, and cybersecurity.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Math, or other related fields with a broad knowledge of electric power systems.
- Experience with cyber-power system modeling, simulation, dynamics, and Python and/or MATLAB programming.
- A strong background in AI/ML applications in the power grid.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to take direction.
- Ability to work with others as part of a project team.
- Candidates must have received a Ph.D. by the commencement of employment.
- Post-doc and/or R&D positions must not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience after obtaining a PhD, excluding specific life events.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) credential.
