About the Role

The Data Scientist III provides technical leadership for the Analytics function, offering deep technical knowledge and expertise in client interactions to explain complex data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership across the overall Analytics function.
  • Explains complex data analysis material to clients.
  • Develops, maintains, and enhances Enterprise Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) models/AI solutions.
  • Supports TD's global AML/CTF strategies.
  • Addresses emerging risks in accordance with best industry practice.
  • Works closely with business owners to identify opportunities and serves as an ambassador for data science.
  • Translates business problems into viable data science solutions.
  • Extracts and prepares data using various programming languages and techniques.
  • Applies statistics and advanced analytics to extract insights from big data.
  • Visualizes insights from data to convey meaning to decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with data and business analysts, software engineers, data engineers, and application developers.
  • Develops scalable and sustainable data science solutions.
  • Provides analytical thought leadership and stays current on data mining developments.
  • Solicits and offers ideas for improving business processes through insights.
  • Educates the organization on approaches like testing hypotheses and statistical validation.
  • Helps the organization understand the principles and math behind the scientist process.
  • Translates up-to-date information into continuous improvement activities.
  • Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies.
  • Ensures programs/policies/practices are well managed and meet business needs.
  • Participates in cross-functional/enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert.
  • Monitors service, productivity, and assesses efficiency levels within own function.
  • Implements continuous process/performance improvements.
  • Leads/facilitates action/remediation plans to address performance/risk/governance issues.
  • Manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control.
  • Participates fully as a member of the team, supporting a positive work environment.
  • Provides thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for own area of expertise.
  • Participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit.
  • Keeps current on emerging trends/developments and grows knowledge of the business, tools, and techniques.
  • Participates in personal performance management and development activities.
  • Keeps others informed about project status and relevant information.
  • Contributes to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship.
  • Leads, motivates, and develops relationships with internal and external business partners/stakeholders.
  • Contributes to a fair, positive, and equitable environment.
  • Acts as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank.

Requirements

  • 5+ year of relevant experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, physics, engineering, finance or computer science).
  • Graduate's degree preferred with either progressive project work experience or research tenure.
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL is a must.
  • Ability to build analytical solutions using LLM APIs.
  • Use GenAI applications to develop data labeling solutions.
  • Familiar with the business context and data infrastructure.
  • Experience with regression, classification, and machine learning models and anomaly detection techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI applications is a strong plus.
  • Experience in Financial Crimes / Compliance Risk Analytics is a plus.
