About the Role

We are seeking a senior commercial leader to serve as the Commercial Director’s principal deputy, managing the full contract lifecycle for ABM UK B&I. This role is central to commercial strategy, governance, and performance, ensuring contracts and subcontractor agreements protect margin, cash, delivery, and risk while fostering sustainable growth. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders across various departments and engage directly with clients and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Commercial Director in shaping and delivering the UK B&I commercial strategy, priorities, and resource plan.
  • Lead the commercial operating model and contract governance framework across assigned business lines and portfolios.
  • Own the end-to-end contract chain, from opportunity qualification and bid review through mobilisation, delivery, change, renewal, dispute, and exit.
  • Lead the commercial and contractual review of tenders, renewals, and extensions, including risk assessment, negotiation strategy, approvals, and recommendations.
  • Partner with Procurement and Legal to ensure strong subcontractor flow-down and clear management of residual risk.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation for complex or high-value commercial issues and deputise for the Commercial Director when needed.
  • Drive strong commercial mobilisation and handover processes for clarity on obligations, controls, risks, and entitlements.
  • Support post-contract governance, including obligations, change control, claims, disputes, renewals, and commercial performance management.
  • Lead the commercial strategy for renewals, extensions, exits, and closeout activity.
  • Coach and develop Commercial Managers and professionals, and build commercial capability across the wider business.

Requirements

  • Typically 7+ years' relevant commercial, contract or quantity-surveying experience, including senior responsibility in facilities management, technical services, engineering, infrastructure or another complex outsourced-services environment.
  • Demonstrable leadership of the commercial and financial performance of high-value, multi-contract portfolios across the full contract lifecycle.
  • Extensive pre-contract experience reviewing, interpreting, negotiating and qualifying client terms.
  • Strong post-contract experience in commercial governance, payment mechanisms, indexation, change, variations, compensation events, claims and dispute resolution.
  • Proven experience creating and managing subcontract flow-down, back-to-back risk positions and material supplier-contract issues in partnership with Procurement and Legal.
  • Evidence of protecting or improving margin, recovering revenue or debt, resolving material claims and turning contractual entitlement into measurable financial outcomes.
  • Experience leading managers and professional staff and influencing senior operational, financial, legal, procurement and client stakeholders across a matrix organisation.
  • Experience establishing commercial governance, risk and opportunity reviews, delegated authority controls and audit-ready contract records.
