About the Role

The Medical Support Professional (MSP) oversees medical and medication-related activities for the residence, under the guidance of the program nurse and management. This role involves scheduling appointments, potentially serving as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), and ensuring the implementation of person-centered services and goals. The DSP is also responsible for the overall physical and emotional well-being of individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly inventory of all medication.
  • Ensure overnight AMAP performs weekly medication inventory.
  • Check MAR’s daily for missing signatures.
  • Check bowel movement charts daily.
  • Check finger stick charts according to schedule.
  • Verify controlled medications have a count sheet and are signed and counted daily.
  • Review MAR monthly for current prescriptions, ensuring a prescription copy is present for each medication.
  • Ensure prescriptions for controlled medications are current (monthly) and all other medications (six months).
  • Schedule all medical and dental appointments in conjunction with the program nurse.
  • Prepare monthly MAR sheets with accurate medication information, dosages, and times.
  • Confirm prescriptions match medication names and that discontinued medications have a corresponding d/c prescription.
  • Attend all program medical meetings.
  • Create a tracking system for medication inventory in conjunction with the Coordinator of Health Services.
  • Create a tracking system for all medical appointments, diagnostic, and lab testing.
  • Ensure retrieval of lab or diagnostic testing reports within two weeks.
  • Complete and attach MIPS forms to CVS prior to appointments, if needed.
  • Ensure AMAP’s document bowel movements for individuals requiring monitoring.
  • Check monthly inventory of OTC medications for quantity and expiration dates.
  • Properly dispose of all expired OTC medications immediately.
  • In-service new AMAP staff as suggested by the Program RN.
  • Attend the majority of medical appointments and advocate proactively for individuals.
  • Inform the nurse and management immediately of any medication changes.
  • Contact the program nurse after each medical appointment to report the outcome.
  • Oversee the AMAP communication book, ensuring all AMAP’s read and sign new entries.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, CNA certification, or DSP certificate from an accredited organization required.
  • Two years or more work experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver license required.

Salary/Compensations

  • $22.00 - $25.00 Hourly
  • Additional compensation may be available based on driving responsibilities, required certifications (e.g., AMAP), and length of time in the role.
  • Pay increases based on certifications, training completion, and job performance.
  • Total compensation package may include a bi-annual discretionary bonus.
