About the Role

Relay is a digital banking platform designed to empower self-made business owners with financial clarity and control. The Core Banking team builds the resilient banking infrastructure that supports Relay's operations, focusing on secure and predictable money movement. This role is crucial for scaling quality operations and developing essential tooling, frameworks, and CI pipelines for distributed systems, aiming to enhance quality and development velocity across all engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Own the quality roadmap for Risk Engineering and build quality engineering frameworks for Core Banking systems.
Build and improve CI infrastructure, including migration to ministack for testing lambdas and microservices.
Drive shift-left quality practices by embedding in teams and encouraging developers to write tests.
Identify and resolve bottlenecks in quality operations across Core Banking and Risk Engineering.
Develop tools to enhance developer experience with minimal third-party dependencies.
Mentor junior quality engineers and contribute to the Quality Engineering team's strategic direction.
Gather and present defect and quality data to engineering leadership and executives.
Spend approximately 75% of the week on hands-on building and 25% on influence, mentorship, and evangelism.

Requirements

Experience building quality engineering systems from the ground up, including frameworks, test suites, and CI systems.
Proven experience testing distributed systems (services, lambdas, microservices, real-time applications) in CI environments.
In-depth understanding of distributed system architecture, including communication, scalability, resilience, and test design.
Ability to influence and persuade development teams to adopt quality practices.
Proficiency in debugging from first principles using code, logs, and traces.
Skill in gathering and presenting quality and defect data from multiple sources to diverse audiences, including executives.
Daily practical use of AI tools, understanding of agent systems, and ability to critique AI output.
Comfort working in fast-paced agile teams with ambiguity and abstract requirements.
Experience with mobile testing (Detox) is a plus.
Experience with AWS systems is a plus.
Experience with React, Nodejs, AWS Infrastructure, PSQL, Redis, Playwright, GitHub Actions, Ministack/Localstack, Wiremock, Bruno, Sentry, Datadog, Cursor, Claude, JIRA, Notion is a plus.
